This year when I was looking for some fun Easter activities for my kids to do, I was struck with a harsh realization. My kids are not little anymore. Everything that looked fun for Chase to do, Shilo was too old for, and everything fun for Shilo to do, Chase was too young for. So we tried to find some friends at the last minute to come hang out with them, however after many many phone calls, no one was available. We decided that we would make our own fun with the creativity of dying eggs, and the usual Easter events. But at the last minute Shilo's friend called and wanted to go to the recreation center activity for teens. Holy crap, that's right I said teens, dang it! So Shilo had a choice to stay home with us and dye eggs, or go to her event and dye eggs by herself when she got home. Of course she chose to go with her friend, who wouldn't? So while I drove Shilo and her friend, who by the way has diabetes too (that's so cute, I think they should be best friends forever), to the glow in the dark volley ball, and candy hunt, Brandon and Chase got all of the egg stuff ready.
I returned home in time to watch Chase enjoy his own time of being creative and independent. He is turning into such a cute little man. Making his own decisions and standing up fo
r himself. Its really an exciting time. He really enjoyed the one on one attention, that he really deserves. And then it was off to bed before the Easter bunny arrived.
After picking up Shilo and her friend at 10:30, she was ready to begin her dying adventures. Of course Shilo doesn't need any instructions on how to be creative or independent. And she dove right in and created each egg just as she wanted, then headed to bed for more Easter fun to come.
In the morning we were going to babysit Chandler for the day so his mommy could move into HIS new house. But luckily someone tipped the Easter bunny off and he was able to drop off a basket especially for Chan and hide some special Chanman eggs as well. We spent about an hour looking for eggs. It was funny because the Easter bunny must have remember about half way through hiding the eggs, that these kids were older. Because half of the eggs were placed into easy spots such as in a corner or on the couch, and the rest of the eggs were hidden so hard that the kids started saying OK where are they, this looking for eggs thing is getting hard and boring. Maybe next year the bunny will compromise and just hide candy and money instead.
Then later that afternoon we headed off to join the billions of kids in the Easter egg dive at the swimming pool. Luckily for the kids we ran into the Easter bunny on the way into the pool. OK, OK, I was the only one excited to see him. Chan is too little to care, Chase is to embarrassed to care, and Shilo is too old to care. But each kid was a sport and posed nicely next to the giant
pink bunny for my sake. Thanks kids!
